The Mustangfanpage was launched in
May of 2002 in anticipation of the upcoming season and the expectations for
that season's team, which went on to win the TSSAA Class 2A Championship.
It was an idea that was developed after visiting a number of other high
school and college football sites and discussed in a couple of radio crew
meetings. The original site was initially designed by Christy Gentry,
a member of the marketing team at ERA Cornerstone Realty. The site was
hosted by GoDesignWeb located in the Nashville area. The first year
alone, there were over 100,000 different visitors and 800,000 hits within
the site. One of the early features of the site is that it archived
the radio broadcasts beginning with games from 2001 and then new 2002 games
were added. A crude message board was created where visitors could ask
questions and leave comments to be read by all Mustang fans world wide.
The site also had a link where people outside of the immediate Nashville
area could hear the games live over the internet with their computer.
Visitors from 28 countries have visited the site and the radio broadcast
were heard from California, Mexico, Germany and Kuwait.
Jonathan Seamon and Dale Jenkins were regular columnist on the site while
Phil Stinson prepared the Weekly Poll.
Video clips were added for a short time but later pulled due to the length
of time it took to download. Game Night photos were added each
week from the work of Barry Murphy and Bo Wilkerson. Game Grading and
commentary was a weekly feature and drew comments from parents, players and
opposing schools, who visited the site. Rosters, The depth chart,
Players of the Game, Scouting reports on other schools, and other
weekly columns could be found on the site. Plus additional features
would be added from time to time. During the 2003 season, a weekly
radio show would be archived on the site so those who missed the original
airing on the Lipscomb Radio Network's flagship station WAMB could hear it.
The site now has become a reference site for the program as media outlets
now visit the site and pull information and pictures for their use.
The site had another re-formatting during the summer of 2004 to make
navigation easier within the site. New features were added in the
Spring of 2004 including a new state of the art Message Board which allowed
immediate posting of comments and questions. While the site is totally
independent of David Lipscomb High School, it is linked from the school site
and is carefully monitored by the administration, who had nothing better
else to do. The site has been sponsored since day 1 by Bayron
and Kathy Binkley of ERA Cornerstone Realty. The website welcomes all
comments and suggestions and still looks for interested people who wish to
actively participate with the site.
