Glenn McCadams Named Coach of the Year by
the NCSA
Coach Glenn McCadams has been named the Coach
of the Year by the National Christian Schools Association (NCSA). McCadams
has been the Head Football Coach for the David Lipscomb High School Mustangs for
over two decades following successful tenures at Milan High School and
Trenton-Peabody High School in West Tennessee . McCadams' teams, while
amassing a 200+ career win total, have been in the State Football Finals 7 times
and have been State Champions 3 times. In addition to his responsibilities
as Head Football Coach, he also serves as Assistant Principal and served as
Athletic Director for more than 20 years.
The award will be presented by Dr. Philip
Patterson, Director of the NCSA, on July 9 at the Annual Conference. Coach
McCadams is married to Alacia and they have two children and 7 grandchildren.
Rogers and Taylor Honored by Tennessean
in All-Midstate Boys Track and Field
Zach Rogers has been named the 2008 Boys Track
Athlete of the Year by The Tennessean with Tim Taylor receiving the Coach
of the Year Award. In addition to his overall award, Rogers was named
First Team All-Midstate in the 100-Meter Dash, 200-Meter Dash and Long Jump.
He also joins his 800-Meter teammates Kevin Murphy, Jeremy Holt, and Russ
Moneypenny on the Second Team All-Midstate relay team.
Mitchell Tenpenny and Jeremy Holt were named
to the All-Midstate Second and Third Teams respectively for their efforts during
the 2008 season. Tenpenny received the honor in the discus as the now
graduated Mustangs finished state runner-up in that event. Holt earned his
place on the All-Midstate team crossing the finish line just behind Rogers at
the state meet in the 200-Meter dash.
Congratulations to Coach Taylor, Zach,
Mitchell, Kevin, Jeremy and Russ for their recognition by The Tennessean.

Former Mustang Joins Nashville Christian Coaching
Staff
Former Lipscomb
Assistant Coach, Charlie Lansdell, has hired former Lipscomb Middle
Linebacker, Dale Binkley to his varsity defensive coaching staff at
Nashville Christian High School. Nashville Christian plays in the TSSAA
1A Classification and is located in West Nashville.
It is our understanding that Binkley, a senior in 2006, will work with
the Eagle linebackers. Binkley was a two year starter for the Mustangs
at linebacker.
More former Mustang players are expected to accept positions in the
Middle Tennessee area this summer. The Mustangfanpage will attempt to
report them all as we get the information.
Football Alumni Return to Take in the
Action
It was great to see many former players in attendance Friday
night with some being closer to the action on the field than
others. Those spotted, and please forgive the MFP if we
inadvertently omit one or two, were the Binkley boys – David,
Chris and Dale – Brent Eubanks, Ford Hillin, Matt Elrod, Donnie
Hudson, Ben Lehning, Clay Lehning, Brad Hunt, and Daniel
Lyons. There may have been others and we will continue to look
for you at upcoming games. Thanks for your continued support of
the program!
Mustang Booster Club Hamburger Cookout a Success
The annual football scrimmage and hamburger cookout
were a tremendous success on Tuesday night as the large contingent of
fans from Lipscomb and Beech alike enjoyed the festivities.
Many thanks to everyone that came to the event!
Special thanks go out to many people for all of the hard work.
Here are a few special “pats on the back” and hopefully we have
not left anyone out that deserves special mention.
First to Rhonda Lehmer and Linda Hudson for organizing the
football side of things with the extra food and set-up.
To David and Cheryl Harper, our Football Game Day leaders.
Then to Greg and Dede Fuson for surviving the first night as our
new concessionaires and doing a tremendous job.
Thanks to Greg, Kirk Lehmer
and others for cooking the burgers.
Also to James and Bo Carbine as presidents of the Booster Club
for hosting the event which always serves as a signal for the end of
summer and beginning of school.
To all those that brought food.
To Don Hudson, Joe Simpson and Jimmy Williams for providing the
chain gang. To Coaches
Morris and Temple
as well as Benjamin Seamon for serving as referees.
It is nice to know that coaches and former players actually do
know the rules. To Kim
Simpson for giving the first look and selling the new official Lipscomb
Mustang shirt for the season.
Then to the parents that stepped up in leadership roles for the
parent/coach devotion following the scrimmage.
Finally, to anyone else that deserves a THANK YOU but has been
inadvertently left off of this list.

The 2006 content has either been moved to CD or
can be found in the Football Chronicles. Those wishing to obtain
the 2006 content, it will be available to you by contacting me. A
copy of the site is also keep in the High School library. We have

season. We apologize but the 2002 State Championship season
content is only partially available. You can find what is left of
it in the Football Chronicles Section.
Are You Interested?
A few people have recently
inquired about the future of the Mustangfanpage and what's involved
in its production? "Is it hard? I can type but I do not
know anything about the internet and computer software...I would
possibly be interested in helping if there are others that would
join in."
I have decided to have a meeting for those who have a interest
in the site and showing the in's and out's of the Mustangfanpage and
how easy it is to maintain and update. The meeting would take
place at my office sometime after the first
of the year. So if you are interested or just curious please
email me
and indicate that you would like to be included in this
meeting. It would be ideal if we could get 4-5 people to split
up the duties. It could turn into a great hobby!
So give it some thought and let me know.

Final or New Project for the Mustangfanpage
Can you name the years or the era the Mustangs wore
these helmets? I have decided to solicit help to work on two
final projects for the Mustangfanpage. One is to create all of the
former helmets worn over the life of the program. Some of which
are seen above. The other is to attempt to record the name of
every player to have played football or were trainers or managers at
David Lipscomb High School since the inception of the program in the
1930's. If you are interested in helping out with this project,
please let me know.
Check this out!
Be sure and watch the video in its entirety.

Can You Name Them?
These former Mustangs were all starters on the
2002 State Championship Team. This picture was taken in Paris,
France in December of 2006. Can you name them and their
positions? Click here to see the correct

Mustangs to Face
Stratford
in 2007

The David Lipscomb Mustangs last faced a Metro team in the 2000
season, a win over Hillwood. This will be the first meeting
between the two schools. The Mustangs will travel to the
Spartan home field for the 2007 matchup. Stratford will return the favor in
the 2008 season. In the modern era of David Lipscomb football,
the Mustangs overall record vs. Nashville Metro teams is 38-34-1.
Coach Mac Mustang team's record against Metro teams is 13-7.
Stratford replaces Clarksville Northwest on the Lipscomb schedule.
We will soon post the 2007 Schedule.

Mustang's Season Finishes at 13-2
2006 3A State Runner Up
It was a chilly afternoon in
Murfreesboro as the Mustangs would face the number 1 team and
favorite to win it all the Fulton Falcons. Mustangs set the
tone early with a ground control game while the defense kept the
high flying Falcon offense and Dennis Rogan out of the endzone
during the entire first half. However, the Mustangs could not
punch a score in and the Falcon defense capitalized on a Mustang
turnover and recovered a fumble and returned it for the only score
of the first half. During the first half, the Mustangs led
every statistical category but the one on the scoreboard:
Fulton 8 Lipscomb 0. The Mustang Defense limited Rogan to less than
50 yards rushing during the half.
The Mustangs were able to score two times during the
second half, a short Matt Elrod run and a long pass from Hunt to
Lehning, and one two point conversion accounted for all of the
Mustang scoring. However, two other huge plays were called
back on penalties, one hold and the other a block in the back.
It was during the second half as well as the explosive Fulton
offensive would find the endzone. The Lipscomb defense was on
the field for longer durations and began to show some wear as the
Falcons were able to present their own ground game. The second
half adjustment for the Falcons were to change some blocking schemes
within their own backfield. They brought in big lineman which
bore some running creases for Rogan and the Falcon backs. They
were also able to convert several 3rd down and long plays.
The Mustangs played hard and never said die as they would play to
the very end.
With the Mustangs controlling the game as they did in the first half
and not being able to punch in a score proved to the Falcon staff
that they could stop the Mustangs. Their defensive speed was
quite evident. The Mustangs made some big gains and were
caught by pursuit and from behind, where as during the regular
season and the playoffs, these would have been touchdowns.
From the comments from the media and folks in the press box these
were the keys to the Fulton Victory:
1. Mustangs not getting a score in the first half.
2. Fumble recovery returned for the TD
3. The two big Lipscomb penalties for drive killers
4. Fulton using their jumbo package in blocking and
controlling the second half clock.
5. Fulton remained composed during the game and did not
implode with stupid penalties as they have shown at various times
during the season and the playoffs.
6. Fulton's size and speed were evident.
While many in the press box media room had expected a blow out by
the Falcons, it was very much a game worth watching and enjoying.
The Mustangs made a game out of it even with their mistakes and
miscues.
The Mustangfanpage congratulates the Fulton Falcons in their
victory. They earned it and made the plays to win the game.
Credit the Mustang players and staff, it was ALL left on the field.
It was a great and successful season. By the accounts of a
number of prognosticators, the two teams that were to play in the
title game, got there. The better team of the day won the
game.
Whoooo...DAT?
David
Lipscomb and Company journeyed to Dyersburg and presented
their version of "Shock and Awe" as the Mustangs rolled to a 42-10
victory over the Host Dyersburg Trojans (Region 7). The
Mustangs won the opening toss and
deferred to the second half. Lipscomb's defense held the
Trojans on their first possession and forced a punt. Then
the Mustang offense would hit the field running and scored
on their first drive. We might as well go on and get this out
of the way, The Mustangs never punted the entire game.
Dyersburg would get on the scoreboard with a nice drive of their
own, but that would be their only TD of the game. The Trojans
did manage a field goal with seconds left in the opening half.
Halftime score was 21-10. Lipscomb received the second half
kickoff and finished that possession with a score as well. The
offense behind a
magnificent line accounted for over 400 yards of rushing. Matt
Elrod with a big night with over 180 yards on the
ground and 4 TD's. The Three headed running monster of Elrod,
Moneypenny, Holt and Davis all with a big night. But the
monster got even bigger as Brad Hunt turned it up field and a TD.
The Mustangs dominated so much on offense during the second half
that Dyersburg only had the ball for 5 minutes.
The Mustang defense did a good job as well limiting the Trojans to
only 10 first half points and keeping Dyersburg Mr. Football Tyler
Caldwell out of the endzone. The Defense also posted two huge
4 and short stops on the Trojan offense.
The Mustangs will now travel to MTSU next Saturday and will face a
very talented and athletic Knoxville Fulton who defeated Pearl Cohn
in Nashville. Kickoff will be at 12:00 Noon CST.
Where's The Fan's
They were in Dyersburg! The
Lipscomb fans which had fallen off in their attendance or were
showing up around kickoff at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex during
the last few weeks of the regular season and post season made a
dramatic reappearance. The Lipscomb faithful found new life
during the second half of the quarterfinal game with Giles County.
Approximately 2000 Mustang Maniacs nearly filled the visiting side
of the Dyersburg stadium. It was impressive as they were loud
in their support of the Mustangs. Coach Mac during his post
game radio interviewed instead of commenting about the game and
another trip to the Championship game spent those few moments
acknowledging his appreciation and the team's of the turnout at the
game. The Lipscomb fans made their way to Dyersburg from their
Thanksgiving destinations.
UP Next
Looming for the Mustangs will be the
Fulton Falcons from Knoxville and Region 2. The Falcons
feature a running back, Dennis Rogan who has already committed to
the University of Tennessee. The Falcons are always one of the
preseason favorites to be playing on Championship Day. You
will be able to find out more information on Fulton in our scouting
report page. Click on the Fulton Helmet at the top of this
page for the link to their information. Their Mustangfanpage
coverage will be updated during the entire week.

Making Plans to Dyersburg

A group of parents and fans
are making plans for a special trip to Dyersburg. If there is
enough interest, the group will be renting a luxury bus(es).
To see these special busses visit
www.luxurybus.net
Once on the site click on our Coaches.
Then click on the Reagan and Kennedy Busses. If you are
interested in joining in on the fun be sure to check with your
football class liaison or
contact Scott Lucas. Based on the number who commit, the
cost will be approximately +/- $50.00 per head. Each bus
can accommodate comfortably 24 people. We can get multiple
busses if need be. The committee will need your commitment
ASAP as they hope to make those reservations on Tuesday. There
is also talk about busses to take students to the game. I
expect more information will soon be announced. These
announcements are not just limited to player families...but for all
those Mustang fans who want to make the trip and have some fun on
the way--but with your game faces on. Don't hesitate long.
Secure your spot(s).
MUSTANGS GUT ONE OUT
It was one of those nights where you had to
play a team twice in one season. It just happens to be perhaps one
of the best teams in your region and deep into the playoffs.
Credit Giles County's Coaching Staff and their players for coming in
and playing the Mustangs until the very end. It was evident
early in the ballgame that the Bobcats had prepared well and were
successful in shutting down the Lipscomb offense during the first
half. Credit the Mustang Defense despite giving up some
yardage on the ground to the Bobcat QB Dunnavant of only giving up
one score in the first half. Dunnavant was the surprise of the
night as Lipscomb was looking for Sam Edgmon to take the lead in the
Bobcat offense. Dunnavant's knee injury did not effect him
early in the contest, however late in the 3rd quarter it appeared
that he was slowing. Credit the Mustang staff for making some
offensive adjustments at halftime and were able to post 21 points
during the second half. The slant pass to Rogers and his speed
tied the game at 7. The Bobcats then answered to take the lead
for the final time of the evening. A screen pass to Elrod for
another TD would tie the game and finally a late 5 yard Elrod TD run
in the game would seal the victory. Oh yeah, The Mustang
Defense held the Bobcats in check for most of the entire second
half.
The Mustangs will practice on Thanksgiving Day in preparation for
the semi-final game in Dyersburg on Friday. We will be
updating the Dyersburg scouting report thru out the week. So
be sure and check back.
A Night To Remember
It was around 4:15 when the Bobcats fans began assembling in the
parking lot of the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. However the
gates would not open until 5:00. The Lipscomb officials had
prepared for a standing room crowd with additional bleachers brought
in to accommodate the folks from Pulaski. Another Ticket gate
was created at the North Endzone. By 5:00-5:30-the parking lot
entrance at Caldwell lane was at gridlock with traffic backed up all
the way to Granny White and a good distance on Caldwell to Franklin
Rd. The 4-way stop also had traffic backed up at Lealand Lane
in both directions. Giles County Team busses had difficulty
making the turn into the complex. One bus went off the road
and was stuck for a short time. The Giles County fans quickly
filled not only the visiting side stands and the temporary seats but
also the standing room areas in the end zones. Many had
brought lawn chairs and lined them up along the fences.
Finally a number of the fans made their way over to the Lipscomb
side. These fans were a little more cordial than the Lexington
group from a year ago. Donna Brasher, The Lipscomb
Cheerleaders, and the Pep Club tried to get the students out early
with food from Baja Burrito and a 6:15 Pep Rally but only 40-50
of the student body made it there in time to eat and participate in
the rally. While a few of the Lipscomb fans got the memo to
get there early, it was still a late arriving Mustang crowd.
Many were probably still trying to secure a parking space. We
warned you. It was near the end of the first quarter before we
got everybody into the stadium. While the crowd was not the
largest to witness a game at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex, it
does rank in the top 3. Last year's game with Lexington had to
be the largest. The Goodpasture game in 1999 was probably the
second largest and this year's game at third. The Giles County
fans were very
vocal during the game with their band playing during every Lipscomb
offensive set. (We tried to warn them in advance, The Mustangs
miss their band and enjoyed the music) The Giles County
students lined up to present their team at the start of the game.
The Lipscomb crowd did not have much to cheer for during the first
half. However, that was not the case during the 4th quarter.
As the fans finally got into the game and with their Purity Milk
Jugs, they helped Rally the Mustangs to their victory. It had
to be the loudest crowd in recent memory. I could barely hear
thru my headset as the roar of the crowd and the shaking of the jugs
was picked up thru the microphones of the radio crews. As the
Mustang defense stopped the Bobcats on their final possession and
the clock ran out...the entire Lipscomb student body rushed the
field to engage the victorious Mustangs.
The Cheering did not end at that point. After the Mustangs got
dressed and exited the locker room, The Students, parents and fans
cheered on. Over the recent years, there has not been too many
games at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex where the Mustangs have
had to rally twice in the second half to win a playoff game.
The fans appeared to have enjoyed this one.
Get There Early

GC Must Face David
Lipscomb..........Again
Posted on November 13, 2006
This years Giles County Bobcat football team enters new territory
this week as they play in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
Their opponent however is very familiar. Giles County will once
again stare down David Lipscomb.
The Bobcats only loss of the season came at the hands of David
Lipscomb and players Jeremy Holt and Matt Elrod. Both Holt and Elrod
rushed for more than 100 yards each. Elrod finished with 145 yards
on 18 carries. Holt added 127 yards on 11 touches.
This go-around, the Bobcats plan to even the score and advance to
the semi-finals and send Lipscomb to the showers.
Freshman Bo Wallace finished the that night 10 of 17 passing for 143
yards in his first varsity start. Joseph Dunnavant, the Bobcats’
previous starting QB was out with a knee injury. Dunnavant has since
healed and poses a threat to Lipscomb. Sam Edgmon had 93 yards
rushing on 18 carries. He also caught five passes for 88 yards.
Game time is 7pm Friday. Bobcat fans should bring lawn chairs as
seating will be limited for the game.
WKSR will have complete coverage beginning at 6:45pm on Country 98.3
FM.
Giles County as we have been reporting is expected to bring a large
group of fans to the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. Lipscomb
officials have made arrangements to bring in temporary bleachers to
help accommodate the visiting side seating. See Advance
tickets for additional information on early ticket purchases.
There is a limited number of Reserved Stadium Seats available.
Contact information is also available in the Advance Ticket area.
Lipscomb students are also planning a pregame tailgate party near
the Baseball Scoreboard. Parking is also expected to be at a
premium. Make plans to get there early.
Spring Hill Suffers
The Spring Hill Raiders came into the
Reese Smith Athletic Complex full of confidence and high expectation
of giving the David Lipscomb Mustangs all that they would want.
Things went south quickly for the Raiders as the Mustangs took their
opening and scored. Spring Hill's opening drive had their top
offensive player Magwan Smith go down with a ankle injury.
Later in the quarter their top running back Ned McCaster would also
be finished for the night with a leg injury of this own. The
Raiders found themselves having to contend with the now 4 headed
attack of Elrod, Holt, Moneypenny and Davis and throw in a bit of
Hunt to Rogers. With injuries to their key offensive players.
Spring Hill had no answer with their offensive backups as the
Mustangs held the Raiders to only 7 total yards and a
goose egg on the scoreboard. A note to the Spring Hill Band,
your playing and screaming during the Mustang offensive sets were
appreciated and enjoyed, as the official Mustang Band has been on a
hiatus this season. It was good to hear some music on game
night. We do congratulate The Spring Hill Team, their Staff
and their fans on a great turn around season. Your season
efforts were not only noticed by the Lipscomb community but the
entire Region 5.
Giles County Makes Another Visit
Mustang Fans Need to Show!
Sam Edgmon and Joseph Dunnavant bring
their Giles County Bobcats back to the Reese Smith Athletic Complex.
The Bobcats surprised the number one seed out of Region Six, Jackson
South Side to advance to the TSSAA Quarterfinals with the Mustangs.
Dunnavant who was injured and did not play against the Mustangs
earlier in the season is back to form and should provide The Giles
County fans with confidence in this game. A Call out to the
Mustang fans who have not really come out in droves to get to the
field early as Giles County is expected to bring a large following.
This game will be the last game played for this 2006 Season at home.
The Winner of this game will head west to face either Covington or
Dyersburg in the state semifinal game.
Ticket information will be announced later on during the week.
Mustangs Tame Wildcats in Round 1
There were some early
concerns in the game with Fayette Ware as the Mustangs won the coin
toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. It was on the
first drive that the Mustangs would fumble and lose the ball.
Both teams were not able to score any points during the first
quarter. The Lipscomb fans were a bit nervous as the second
quarter began. There was a hint of Deja' vu as a number of
fans started to recall the Marion County First Round game of 2002.
The concern would be short lived as the Mustangs would score three
TD's in a matter of 78 seconds as Jeremy Holt would enter the end
zone on a 7 yard run, then followed by Dale Binkley interception
return for a 25 yard TD. After the defense stopped the
Wildcats on their next possession, Matt Elrod would cruise in for
the third touchdown. With
6:04 left in the half, Fayette Ware would score their only points of the
game. Their two point conversion would fail.
The Mustangs scored another TD in the 3rd quarter as Kevin Davis ran
in from the 13. Sophomore Kicker Kyle Lehning added the final
touches in the fourth quarter as he connected on a 32 yard field
goal. Read more on this game in the Game Grade and Commentary
Page and the LRN Player of the Game.
Lipscomb to Host Region Foe
Spring Hill in Round 2
After going 0-10 in 2005,
The Spring Hill Raiders have rebounded and has advance to play the
Mustangs by defeating Lexington the second seed out of Region 6 by a
score of 35-7. The Raiders are now on a 4 game winning streak
while playing with a new confidence. They are led by Magwan
Smith at quarterback and a powerful running back Ned McCaster.
In addition to their high octane offense, the Spring Hill Defense
has been playing extremely well. Mustangs know that they will
have the play their A-Game as the Raiders feel that they are now on
a mission. They will come into the Reese Smith Athletic
Complex sky high. This surely will be a very interesting
contest between these two Region 5 Rivals. Be sure to check
the Spring Hill Scouting page. We will be updating their page
all week in preparation for the game on Friday.
....From the Fayette Ware Website
Fayette Ware travels to Nashville to take on
David Lipscomb in the 1st round of the TSSAA state playoffs. Up

MUSTANG'S UNDEFEATED REGION STREAK CONTINUES
The Mustangs haven't lost a
region game since week two in the 2002 season and that streak
continued last night as David Lipscomb defeated Montgomery Central
at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex 38-7. The Mustangs won the
coin toss and elected to take the ball on the opening series and
tacked on an early score. The Indians were not able to stop
the Mustangs on their first 5 drives. The night was declared
over with about 3 minutes left in the second quarter when Senior
Linebackers Ben Lehning and Dale Binkley did not return to the
field. The Mustang offensive line took control
of the game while providing ample running room for Elrod, Holt,
Moneypenny, and Davis. Brad Hunt also hit Zach Rogers on a TD
pass. Sophomore place kicker, Kyle Lehning nails a
48 yard field goal to wrap up the Mustang scoring for the night.
It was also a good night for the reserves as they got a lot
of valuable work in as the team now prepares for the playoffs.

REGION CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN
A 4 PEAT
Last Night in Lewisburg, The David
Lipscomb Mustangs came to town and left with another Region 5 Class
3A Crown by defeating the host Marshall County Tigers 56-20.
It was a Mustang offensive escapade as Lipscomb never punted,
completed 5 of 5 passes, no turnovers and had nearly 500 total yards
on offense. Matt Elrod had three TD's, one on the ground and
two through the air. Holt had 2 TD's and was also joined in
the scoring by Ben Lehning, Zach Rogers, and Connor Prady.
Kyle Lehning and his Chuck Wagon gang were perfect with 8 extra
points. The Marshall County Tigers were able to put together
two legitimate drives one their opening drive of the game and the
opening drive of the second half. Their only other points came
just before half as they were able to score on a deflected pass.
The Mustang Defense played a little bend but don't break and
disrupted the Tiger offense for most of the evening.
In the Regular Season Finale this Friday, The Mustangs will honor
their Seniors at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex as they will host
the 1-8 Montgomery Central Indians.
More Coverage of the Marshall County game can be found in the Game
Grade and Commentary Page.
Senior Night Ceremonies Postponed
Due to the projected inclement
weather for Friday's Game with Montgomery Central, The Senior Night
Committee has officially postponed the half time Senior Night
Ceremony. The Ceremony will now be moved to the half of the
Mustangs first round game of the TSSAA Playoffs next Friday,
November 3rd. This week's game
with Montgomery Central will be played at its regular time at the
Reese Smith Athletic Complex.
Purple Shoe Gang is awaiting marching orders. PSG on stand by.

Playoff Picture Clear......As Mud
Recent discussions
indicate that the Mustangs could face Liberty Magnet School, all
subject to Friday Night's action.
The Road for Round One for the Mustangs is clear as
they ended up as the Number one seed out of Region 5 Class 3A.
It is believed that they will host Fayette Ware, the 4th seed out of
Region 6 next Friday night at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex, but
that will have to be confirmed after this Friday Night's action.
Giles County who finished the season as the second seed will host
the third place team. What is not so cleared, who will secure
the third and fourth seeds out of our region. Right now there
are numerous tie breaking scenarios. Teams that still have a
mathematical chance of making the playoffs are: Spring Hill,
Cheatham County, Page, Marshall County, and Creek Wood. Only
Montgomery Central is totally out of the picture. Here is the
Scenario to the Playoffs, presented by the TSSAA:
David Lipscomb is first. Giles County is second.
If Spring Hill wins and Cheatham County wins, Spring Hill is third
and Cheatham County is fourth.
If Cheatham County wins and Spring Hill loses, Cheatham County is
third and Marshall County is fourth.
If Giles County wins, Spring Hill wins, and Page wins, Spring Hill
is third and Page is fourth.
If Marshall County wins, Spring Hill wins, and Page wins, Marshall
County is third and Spring Hill is fourth.
If Giles County wins, Creek Wood wins, and Page wins, Creek Wood is
third and Page is fourth.
If Marshall County wins, Creek Wood wins, and Page wins, Marshall
County is third and Creek Wood is fourth.
Playoff Picture Coming Into Light
The Mustangs by defeating Giles County this past
Friday night have secured their 14 consecutive trip to the TSSAA
Playoffs. A win this Friday night over Marshall County will
allow the Mustangs to lay claim as Region Champions and take the top
seed into the playoffs. In week one of the playoffs, Lipscomb
will face either the 3rd or 4th seeded team out of Region 6.
Noted below is the current standings for Region 6.
It looks the Mustangs first round playoff opponent could be
either Liberty Magnet, Fayette Ware, or Bolivar Central. The actual
seeds will not be completed until week 10. Mustangs could
possibly face Lexington High School once again. We remember
Lexington from last season, when they came to
our house.
MUSTANGS SECURE PLAYOFF BID
The Mustang Defense once again stepped up and made the
plays tonight as they held the Giles County Bobcats, The Region's
top offensive team to only 3 points. The Mustang offense were
dominate on the ground as Matt Elrod,
Jeremy Holt, Russ Moneypenny, and Lipscomb QB Brad Hunt with big
plays.
The Mustang Defense got the scoring started early as Senior Corner
Burton Wood picked up a Giles County fumbled and scored a TD.
The win by the Mustangs tonight secured their 14th consecutive trip
to the TSSAA Playoffs.
Giles County had a number of good offensive plays led by backup QB,
Freshman Bo Wallace and their featured offensive player Sam Edgmon.
The Giles County team were well represented in the Stands tonight as
many of their fans and students made the trip despite it also being
Fall Break at their school.
The Mustangs will travel to Lewisburg Friday night as they will face
a hungry Marshall County Team. Its a game that you will not
want to miss, as something wacky always seems to happen during the
game. More information on game will follow this week.
The Website will slowly be updated this week as I will be taking a
couple of days off. Be sure to check back during the week for
all of the updates.

Mustang Defense Comes to Play
After a week of hard practice and the pushing by the
Coaching Staff, The Lipscomb Defense reasserted themselves last
night as the Mustangs defeated the visiting Creek Wood Red Hawks
42-7. In a revamped defense the Mustangs held Red Hawks in
check while the offense poured on the points during the first half.
The offensive line provided huge holes and gave Mustang QB Brad Hunt
plenty of time as Lipscomb scored on both the ground and thru the
air. Matt Elrod and Russ Moneypenny with big TD Runs.
Lipscomb to Face Giles County for Region Top Spot
Friday Night the Mustangs will host the Bobcats from
Giles County (Pulaski) at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. This
game will have a lot of hype as the winner will sit alone at the top
of Region 5 3A with the hopes of getting the top seed in the TSSAA
Playoffs. Giles County will come into the game with a perfect
7-0 mark with many lopsided games both within and outside of the
region. The Bobcats are much improved over last year with a
new head coach in place. We are expecting a large group of
fans making
their way up from Pulaski. David Lipscomb will have fall break
next weekend but game officials hope to still have a good crowd to
cheer on the team. We encourage everyone to make plans to be
at the game before heading out of
town as this contest is as important of a game that will be played during
the regular season.
Mustangs Spoil Spring Hill's Homecoming
Senior QB, Brad Hunt returned to the starting lineup last
night for the first time since being injured in the Greenbrier
game in week 1 and engineered 6 Mustang scoring drives before
yielding to Caleb Simpson and the Mustang reserves. The
Mustang offensive attacked featured 10 different backs who got
a touch in the game. The Mustangs got TD's from Matt Elrod,
Jeremy Holt, Russ Moneypenny, Harrison Daniel, Kevin Davis, and
Michael Saggio on the ground and a TD pass from Hunt to Lehning.
Credit the Mustang line for opening up such holes and picking up the
Spring Hill blitz. Spring Hill QB Magwan Smith and his
cast of characters proved they are a dangerous offensive team
managed to tack on two running TD's and a field
goal to put 15 points on Lipscomb.
Next Week the Mustangs host another Region 5 foe, the improving
Creek Wood Red Hawks. Kick off is 7:00 PM
at the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. (See Game Grade and Commentary
Page for additional news for next week's game with Creek Wood).

Mustang Offense Soars
It was homecoming last night in Ashland City and
the Cheatham County Central High School Cubs were the gracious host
to the David Lipscomb High School offense as the Mustangs piled up
more than 500 total yards. Kevin Davis, Russ Moneypenny, and
Matt Elrod each had over 100 yards rushing while QB Caleb Simpson
hit Zach Rogers for a TD Bomb. The game was not as close as
the score indicated as the Mustangs called off the dogs with 6
minutes left in the third quarter. Davis loomed big in the
first quarter with over 100 yards and 3 TD's.
Cheatham County, who was hit hard by graduation,
played the entire game with grit and determination primarily with
underclassmen. Most teams would have tanked after
falling so far behind so early.
Lipscomb takes a week off before heading down to
Spring Hill in week 6. This may end up being good
timing for the Mustangs who probably need the night off
to heal many bumps and bruises.
Be sure to check in everyday over the next two weeks as
we will be updating and adding some new features to the site.
We are also considering running an Internet Special during the time
usually allotted for the game broadcast for next Friday. Stay
tuned.
Mustang Offense Gets in Gear
Vikings Shut Out
RSAC. Last night the David Lipscomb Mustang offense
continued their streak of scoring on their three opening
drives in the past three games while the defense has only yielded
during that same span 2 total TD's. Matt Elrod and Jeremy Holt
behind a very solid offensive line effort paced the Mustangs on the
ground. Caleb Simpson threw for a 128 yards to Lehning, Davis,
and a TD pass to Zach Rogers.
The Defense also had some big plays with interceptions
from Connor Prady and Mitchell Tenpenny. The Linebacking Corp
ended up with 37 tackles for the night before yielding in the third
quarter to the JV team.
Mustangs travel to Ashland City on Friday night to face the Cheatham
County Cubs in a 7:30 Kickoff.
This One Over-Kinda Early
Rudderville.
It was a perfect nice for High School Football as the Mustangs took
care of business early by scoring once again on their first three
offensive series. Matt Elrod and Jeremy Holt combined for most
of the offensive punch on the ground. Sophomore QB Caleb
Simpson completed one pass to TE Ben Lehning for a TD and Russ
Moneypenny also added another TD on the ground.
With the exception of one Page drive on their second possession, The
Lipscomb Defense held the younger Page offense in check most of the
evening
With approximately 6 minutes left in the third quarter, Coach Mac
and the staff began substituting first on defense followed by the
offense on their next series.
Mustangs return Friday to the Reese Smith Athletic Complex as they
will host the Class 4A Vikings of Clarksville Northwest.
A few good reserve seats are still available. Contact the
Mustangfanpage or the High School office to secure your seats.
MUSTANGS ANSWER THEIR CRITICS
David Lipscomb 31 Greenbrier 6
On what turned out to be another very hot and humid night in
Nashville, The Mustangs came out and cleared their name to the "nay
sayers" by defeating the Greenbrier Bobcats 31-6. Folks, this
one was over early! According to sideline reports, the
Greenbrier Staff, which is considered one of the best in the
Midstate were searching for help early in the first quarter as the
Bobcats had no answers on either side of the ball. The problem
began for the Bobcats even before the game started, as the
Greenbrier Captains winning the coin toss elected to defer to the
second half and give the ball to the Mustangs. The Mustangs
behind the running attack of Jeremy Holt and Mat Elrod and the
blocking of the Lipscomb line scored TD's on its first three drives.
The now healthy Lipscomb Defense completely shut down the Greenbrier
offensive effort with interceptions and tremendous pressure put on
the Bobcat QB all evening long. The Mustang offensive unit was
able to tack a Kyle Lehning field goal prior to the half time break.
It was much of the same to start the second half as the Lipscomb
Defense kept the Bobcat offense in check and the Mustangs on Offense
just ate time off the clock. The Mustangs were able to tack on
another score in the second half and the Bobcats would score late in
the game as Coach Mac and the staff began to make substitutions.
The Mustangs haven't been able to dominate Greenbrier this
convincingly since week one of the 2002 season. We wish the
Bobcats Good Luck for the rest of the season. You have a great
set of traveling fans and perhaps our paths might cross one more ti
It Was A Night of MISSED Opportunities
Goodpasture 20 David Lipscomb 13
It was supposed to be the big rival game as advertised by the
Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce, The Clinic Bowl's Kick
Off Classic to be played at Vanderbilt. The crowd came.
The rain came. The heat and humidity was in attendance
as well. But it was still Week Zero for both Lipscomb and
Goodpasture. Both teams during the night did not click on all
cylinders. While it was a good idea for the Chamber, it
just didn't have the feel of the rivalry. The stadium wasn't
pack and the players could not feed off the crowd. There was
not a band to be seen. Not that it was a bad night to play
high school football....it just felt different.
In the mean time, the outcome may have been the same if it had been
played in week 4, but it was obvious that both teams still have some
work left to do to get ready for week 1. The game came down to
missed opportunities by the Mustangs. Goodpasture fumbled the
ball 7 times lost only two. Lipscomb fumbles once and
loses possession and stops an early third quarter drive. The
Cougars pick off a pass which ends another Mustang drive. The
Mustangs failed to score from the one yard line on two plays.
However Goodpasture would blow a couple of plays:
1. With a lead late in the game instead of punting on 4th down
decides to go for it and are stopped. 2. Goodpasture
with the lead late decides to throw the ball downfield to only have
it intercepted by Connor Prady and returns it deep back into Cougar
territory.
After a late score by Lipscomb, The Mustangs kick onside
with 7 seconds left on the clock. It appeared that Lipscomb
recovers the kick but to only lose it in the pileup.
The Lipscomb Defense as they played well at times did look like they
were a little hot and tired. But credit both teams, NO ONE
QUIT DURING THE GAME.
Not all was lost in the game, Mustangs did look well at times on
offense, which at this time last year was not the case. The
Mustang offensive unit performed nearly to perfection with their 2
minute offense which led to their second score. Goodpasture
which had a number of players playing both sides were able to
selectively alternate some of their bigger key players to keep them
as fresh as possible.
All in all, it was a very entertaining game for both squads and
their fans and when it was over, both teams and their staffs
gathered at mid-field and shook hands. Did I mentioned that it
was hot!

well in his comeback. It has been over 30 years since he has

Lipscomb, TSSAA's
All-Time 2A
Winningest Football Team
The TSSAA's Earl Nall, best known for his Weekly Prep Football
rankings, today confirmed a topic of conversation that began several
months ago. Nall who has recorded and documented every high school
football game played in the State of Tennessee since the re-alignment of
1993 just announced the top winning teams in all classifications.
The Mustangs were the top 2A team and were third overall in the State
within all classifications with a winning percentage of .838. The
conversation started after the TSSAA announced the new alignments
effective for the 2005 Season within the Lipscomb community. It
then spread to the Coaching staffs at both Tyner and Alcoa High Schools
which led to the contact with Earl Nall of the TSSAA. While many
people view Murphy Fair as the high school football guru of Tennessee,
Earl Nall is the numbers guy for the State. He has a great
understanding of how the numbers work. He was very gracious in
helping us come up with the information and we could not have confirmed
this story without his effort. He plans on his own public notice
of his findings within the next couple of weeks on his website
www.earlnall.com.
