"Freight Train McAdoo"

Stadium Voice of the Mustangs
     Tommy Woodroof
Somewhere in the early to mid 1980's, a tackle was made during a home game.  The  public address announcer proclaimed loudly the name of two Mustang players and finished it up with "Freight Train McAdoo".  It seemed that McAdoo for a number of years had at least one tackle each home game.  As his name was announced, fans in the crowd would check their program to find out who he was and what grade he was in.  He had to be a senior because they have been announcing his name forever.  "Freight Train McAdoo" was a mythical Mustang Player created by then the Public Address Voice of the Mustangs, Tommy Woodruff.  Mr. Woodruff had a lot of fun with McAdoo and announced the players name with great emotion.  Such as Joshhhhhhh, CunningHAM. Woodruff had around 10 years association with the team.  When he was diagnosed with cancer, he finally stepped down.  "Freight Train McAdoo" however stayed with the program.  He occasionally made a tackle in middle school games.  Tommy was confined to his home but always listened to the Mustang games on the radio and occasionally McAdoo would slip in and make a play.  Mr. Woodruff passed away late in the 2003 season.  In tribute to Tommy and Freight Train, a locker was fitted with the name of "McAdoo",  pads and a old tattered jersey and game pants.

We have been trying to find a picture or description of Freight Train but unable to locate it as of yet.  Coach Taylor indicated that his jersey number was "00" but we know that couldn't be right, because Coach Mac would not have ever allowed the number.  We thought it would be like 66, 69, 77, or 79.  If  you have a description of Freight Train, please share it with us on the message board.  (UPDATE AS OF 9/14/04)  According to Ron Reasonover an alumni of the Football team, indicated that he has an early program listing the number of "Freight Train McAdoo at #99.
