Growing up near the campus and while a student from Kindergarten thru
the College, I spent many hours during the school days and many hours
late at night inside friendly Burton Gym. Its no longer on campus.
The School after spending big dollars on McQuiddy, The SAC, The High School
building and its annex did not keep up the old Gymnasium and it fell in
disrepair and finally was taken down. I had heard the old stories that
the college basketball team used to play its games there along with the high
school teams. I often wondered where did people sit and what was it
like during those games. While researching the Lipscomb
High School football teams of the 1930's I found some old pictures of
basketball activity and thought we would post them here for all of you who
also have memories of practicing basketball, taking PE classes,
playing battle ball, wrestling matches, plays, and other great
activities inside the old gym. |
