The 2007 Season. An Early Look |
|||||||
| The 2006
Season is now in the books. There is no question on how special that
season turned out. We will miss those graduating Seniors
and their contributions to that success. Now to spurn on some winter
conversation, we will take a quick look at the 2007 Team
and what can we expect. On paper, if the Mustang coaching staff can
fill a couple of important positions, the team should be a pretty good team.
We repeat....on paper
only! The staff and the team will determine how successful they can be
on the field. Be mindful that players can work to improve themselves
in the off season especially in the weight room and during spring practice.
The fact that certain players may be mentioned
in this report or perhaps are not
referenced here does not mean that changes will be or not be made
before the season opener. It is usually left up to the
individual
player and their desire based on their God given talent. These are
just assumptions and my opinions. These are not written in stone nor
has any coach given any advise on these selections. |

| The Offensive Line | |||||||
Travis Harper TE |

![]() Andrew Quinn LG |
![]() Dallon Hudson C |
RG | RT | ||
| The Line: The above mention players will be given a hard look at these positions. With the exception of the lone returner Cameron Hunt, all other offensive line positions will have to be filled. Look for Hunter Williams to be in the mix for a guard position. Sterling Crawford with his size may have to be utilized in a tackle position. Trey McClain will also be looked at possible at center or guard. Zach Lehmer though penciled in on the defense may also get some looks on the offensive line. Chris Loftis was in depth 2006 depth chart as a center. Todd Reasonover, Clayton Stroop, Ryan Emery, and Nathan Moorer will also get looks. If the staff cannot find fill the guard position for possibly Saggio coming in. Coach Taylor will have his hands full trying to rebuild the offensive line. Gone are Jonathan Lucas, Jay Dorris, Tyne Brewer, Rick Forehand, and Benjamin Seamon. | |||||||
| The Skill Positions | |||||||
Kevin Davis WB |
![]() Jeremy Holt TB |
![]() Caleb Simpson QB |
Russ Moneypenny HB |
![]() Zach Rogers WR |
|||
| The skill positions look very strong will lots of starters returning. Caleb Simpson saw extensive action last season as he stepped in for several games for the injured Brad Hunt. Look for Buck Sheesley and Daniel Dorris to spend some time at WR. Dorris also at TE. Harrison Daniel and Ryan Nowers look to back up Holt and Moneypenny. Geoffrey Street may also get some looks at WR but it may be at WB. Kevin Murphy should be healthy and competing for skill position on offense and possibly in the defensive secondary. Reid Hillin will probably be noted as the #2 QB. Trevor Hunt could possible find his way to the backfield or even possibly at TE. | |||||||
| The Defensive Line | |||||||
![]() Dallon Hudson DE |
![]() Brandon Cannon Nose |
![]() Zach Lehmer DE |
![]() Chase Reyes STD |
||||
| Gone are Donnie Hudson, Charles Stevens, and Stephen Dodson. Sterling Crawford could find his way to DE along with Travis Harper and Jonathan Clinger. Hunter Williams and Trey McClain could also be looking at the nose position. Cannon is the lone returner. Reyes and Loftis could be competing for both the stud and LB position. | |||||||
| The Linebackers | |||||||
![]() Evan Webb OLB |
![]() Mitchell Tenpenny MLB |
![]() Michael Saggio OLB |
|||||
| Gone are Dale Binkley and Ben Lehning. Webb, Tenpenny, and Saggio will probably handled the LB duties. Tenpenny and Webb were starters and Saggio saw considerable playing time. Travis Harper, Ryan Cassasa, Chris Loftis, Blake Lehmer, and Nathan Moorer will also be competing for spots in the LB corp or at stud. Reid Hillin may also be looked at stud. Ben Brewer may be looked at both LB and stud. Hunter VanderVort and Logan Roberts will be looking at LB on defense. | |||||||
| The Secondary | |||||||
| LC |
Kyle Lehning SS |
![]() Zach Rogers FS |
RC | ||||
| Gone are Burton Wood, Connor Prady, Thomas Scott, Bryan Solomon and Matt Elrod. Coach Stewart will be looking to rebuild this unit. Kyle Lehning and Rogers are expected to compete for the safeties. Others looking to fill in the remaining spots will be Daniel Dorris, Clark Tomberlain, Geoffrey Street, Seth Granda, Kevin Murphy, Ryan Nowers, Harrison Daniel, and Buck Sheesley. | |||||||
| Specials | |||||||
![]() Kyle Lehning Brandon Cannon Mitchell Tenpenny |
|||||||
| Gone from
Special Team play is Stephen Kinkade, holder for extra points, Spenser
Kinkade, snapper for punts, Ben Lehning, punter and Daniel Lyons, kick off
specialist. From the Chuck Wagon Gang gone are Aaron Scherer, Michael
Dance, and Will King. (Chuck Wagon performed this past season tremendously)
Also gone are key kickoff personnel, Graham Johnson and Bryan Solomon.
Kyle Lehning will continue his PAT's and possibly will handle kick off
duties. Brandon Cannon will probably continue snapping for extra
points and field goals. Staff to find new hold. Mitchell Tenpenny will
return to action as the punter. Staff will need to find a new snapper
for punter. Ryan Nowers has been working toward this job. Chuck
Wagon gang, and Kick off team will probably not be decided until sometime
during Camp David. Chuck Wagon will probably be made up by some of the
larger members of the team. Kickoff team will probably be handled by a
number of the fastest backup secondary and receivers on the team. |
|||||||
| The Variables | |||||||
| These
assumptions do not take into consideration of the up and coming Sophomore
Class. Some notable names will be Powell, Sanderson, McAlister, Fuson,
Johnson, Malloy, Bell, Dickerson, Adkins, Grissom and a number of others.
The Coaching staff will spend a considerable amount of time working on
re-building the offensive line. Initially the staff will try to work
on a two platoon system thru the first couple of scrimmages. But if
they can't find the right personnel, there could be several who will be
playing both ways especially in the trenches and at the linebacker position.
Right now it looks as if Rogers, Cannon, and possible Dallon Hudson could go
both ways. The other potential 2 way starters could include Zach Lehmer,
Michael Saggio, and Mitchell Tenpenny. The Staff will hate to do this. All of this could change based on a player's work ethic in off season weight program and spring practice. |

| An Early Look At Region 5 | |||||||
Marshall County: Got out of the gate early and was successful, but then fell apart. The Tigers couldn't stop anybody. Many questioned their use of their talent pool. Gave Giles County a scare at the end of the season. New coach coming in. Should be greatly improved and very dangerous with their talent and speed. Should be a playoff contender. Giles County: A Tremendous season. Lots of talent and speed. Several key senior players will be gone. But their staff proved that they could come up with a great game plan with what they had. Should be a playoff contender. Spring Hill: A complete turnaround from the season before. Coach is back with the team. Playoffs in 2006. Unsure of their remaining talent. Will note them as Could be a playoff contender. Creek Wood: Fell off the 2006 season from the successes from 2005. Unsure of their remaining talent. Will note them as Could be a playoff contender. Page: An up and down team for the past two seasons. Trouble with stopping people in 2005 and 2006. With new coach and several key skill players returning should be a playoff contender. Cheatham County: 2006 a semi re-building year. Could put up some points but had trouble stopping others. Playoffs in 2006. Should be a playoff contender in 07. Montgomery Central: Hasn't had the horses in some time. Do not look for them to get them in time for the 2007 season. Will look to defeat Houston County in 2007. |
